The band have reformed as a trio with Don Plehn, Ted Porter, and Tim Whittemore (the original members). For more details, see the new Big Blow Official Home Page: http://bigblowandthebushwackers.com
Big Blow and the Bushwackers: Around '64-'65, our family lived just south of LA, and we used to go to some of the coffee houses and hootenanys in the area. Some people who would become major performers would show up at the open mikes, including the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. This is who Big Blow really remind me of. They have the same energy, eclectic choice of material and instruments, interaction with the audience, and high level of musicianship. You gotta see 'em to believe 'em: Five guys in weird hats, playing instruments which look like they came from a hardware store owner's nightmare, and sounding like a bunch of punkers were transported by aliens to an Irish pub in the Australian Outback.
Go see them live. I did, and now i'm a Bush Leaguer. In the DC area, you can get their recordings at The House of Musical Traditions, but live is better.
Disclaimer: The Bush League is the Official Fan Club of Big Blow and the Bushwackers. This is the Offical Fan Club Site, and is sorta sanctioned by the band (they do visit from time to time), but all opinions expressed herein are those of individual Bush Leaguers, and not of members of the band or their relatives.
Performance Reviews of various Big Blow gigs are available, as are Venue Overviews.
The Grateful Dead had the Deadheads, but Big Blow has the Bush League. There's a quick quiz to find out if you qualify, and information on how to join (a quick and easy way to get Cool Big Blow Stuff).
Strictly commercial: You can acquire Big Blow recordings and "stuff" of your very own.
