Why is my home page so boring?

I've always been annoyed by having to wait on pages while graphics files loaded. The server grinds away, loading huge backgrounds, endless little icons and dingbats, in-line images, when all i really want is to find a particular link to find a particular file. Even turning off image display doesn't help, since all too often people create a map for links. So, in rebellion, my pages have very few graphics.

Then again, perhaps i'm just a boring guy.
